2018 was instructive/epochal. We still lived in a universe where a significant cohort of congressional Republicans had been distinguished in the eyes of voters from the party and its nominee in the previous election. That's basically over except but for a few notable exceptions.

What's happening in Dallas this week may not be perfectly tailored to the soft suburban swing seat, but unlike 2018, that's not really the battleground. In the Senate, it's a state that voted for Trump by 12 points or more.

It's not without irony that we're catalyzing a moral panic around AI safety at the precise moment that the multi-generational panic around nuclear finally has abated (compounded by the fact that the renaissance is itself primed to power AI load growth.)
